New Port Richey is where west Pasco shops, eats, goes to the hospital and sits in traffic. Nearly every road that matters on this side of the county runs through it: US-19 north to south, SR-54 and Trouble Creek Road east to west, Little Road and Grand Boulevard in between, and the old downtown grid around Main Street, Madison Street and Massachusetts Avenue. The crash volume follows the traffic.
Conde-Huggins Accident Injury Lawyers is a few minutes north on Ridge Road in Port Richey. We know these streets, the two hospitals that serve them, and the courthouse on Little Road where New Port Richey injury cases are decided. Call (240) 421-5511 for a free consultation, and if you cannot come to us, we come to you.
New Port Richey's crash corridors
US-19 through the city. The ConsumerAffairs study that named US-19 in Pasco and Pinellas the deadliest road segment in Florida counted more than 150 deaths since 2020. In New Port Richey, the dangerous stretch runs from the Port Richey line south past Main Street, Trouble Creek Road and Marine Parkway toward Holiday. A 2025 report on the road's reputation described a wheelchair user killed crossing US-19 at Trouble Creek Road. FDOT has responded with LED lighting at 24 signalized intersections, new crosswalks and pedestrian head-start signals, but the volume and speed have not changed.
SR-54 and the Little Road junction. SR-54 begins at US-19 in Elfers and runs east past Seven Springs Boulevard and Little Road, where it rides the Mitchell Bypass over the Anclote River. That junction is one of the busiest in the county, and the Florida Highway Patrol has counted more than 100 crashes since mid-2022 at the nearby SR-54 and Mitchell Ranch Road intersection alone. Traffic from Trinity and Seven Springs all funnels through here.
Downtown. Main Street, Grand Boulevard, Madison Street and Congress Street are slower, but they are busy with pedestrians heading to Sims Park, the riverfront and the restaurants. Massachusetts Avenue carries traffic from the residential grid east to Little Road. Low-speed crashes downtown produce a high proportion of pedestrian and bicycle injuries.
Trouble Creek Road and Rowan Road. These feed the big subdivisions between US-19 and Little Road. Rear-end and failure-to-yield crashes at the signals along them are common, and both roads carry school traffic twice a day.

The New Port Richey Police Department, FHP and the Sheriff
New Port Richey is one of four Pasco cities with its own police force. The New Port Richey Police Department investigates crashes inside the city, and its Records Section at 6739 Adams Street releases reports. Outside the city limits, the Pasco Sheriff's Office or FHP Troop C responds, and FHP handles most of the serious crashes on US-19 and SR-54.
Here is the practical problem. Three agencies, three sets of records, and the Pasco Sheriff's Office generally does not write long-form crash reports. If your crash was handled on a short form, the report will tell an adjuster almost nothing about how it happened, which leaves room for the other driver to rewrite the story. We fill that gap by collecting evidence the report does not: photos of the scene and the vehicles, witness contact information, 911 recordings and video from businesses along the corridor. Call (240) 421-5511 early so that evidence is still there when we ask for it.
Hospitals that treat New Port Richey crash victims
Morton Plant North Bay Hospital, 6600 Madison Street, is the city's hospital, a 222-bed BayCare facility a few blocks from downtown. Most New Port Richey crash patients who are not critically injured end up here.
HCA Florida Trinity Hospital, 9330 SR-54 East, serves the south and east sides of the city.
HCA Florida Bayonet Point Hospital in Hudson receives the most serious trauma as the county's only Level II trauma center.
If you were seen in any of these emergency rooms, you have already satisfied Florida's 14-day PIP treatment rule. Keep going. Gaps in care are the first thing an adjuster looks for.
Florida law for a New Port Richey injury claim
Deadline. Fla. Stat. § 95.11(5)(a) gives you two years from the crash to file a negligence suit. Wrongful death is also two years (§ 95.11(5)(e)). Older crashes, before March 24, 2023, keep the previous four-year window.
Fault. Florida's modified comparative negligence rule (Fla. Stat. § 768.81(6)) bars any recovery if you are found more than 50 percent at fault. That rule is why a short-form report and a quick recorded statement to the other insurer can cost you the whole case. Let us talk to them.
PIP. Your own policy pays up to $10,000 in medical and disability benefits regardless of fault, but only if you got initial care within 14 days, and only $2,500 unless a physician, PA or APRN documents an emergency medical condition. Pain and suffering from the at-fault driver requires a permanent injury under Fla. Stat. § 627.737(2).
UM/UIM. Florida does not require bodily injury liability on most private vehicles. A large share of the cars on US-19 carry none. Your uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage under Fla. Stat. § 627.727 can be the difference between a real recovery and $10,000 in PIP.
Government vehicles. New Port Richey is a GOPasco hub. A crash with a county bus, a city vehicle or a school bus is a claim against a government body, which means the $200,000 per person cap and the written notice rules of Fla. Stat. § 768.28 apply. These claims have their own clock. Do not wait.

Questions people ask us about new car accident cases
Where do I get a crash report for an accident in New Port Richey?
If New Port Richey police responded, the Records Section is at 6739 Adams Street, open weekdays 8 to 5, and takes requests in person or through the city's JustFOIA portal. Crash reports from any agency, including NPRPD, FHP and the Pasco Sheriff's Office, can also be bought through the Florida Crash Portal for $10 plus a $2 fee. We order the report for every client at no charge.
Which agency handles crashes on US-19 in New Port Richey?
It depends on the exact location. The New Port Richey Police Department works crashes inside city limits, including much of US-19 between the Port Richey line and the Holiday line. Crashes just outside the city, and many serious ones on the state highway, go to FHP Troop C or the Pasco Sheriff's Office. The report number and agency name on your exchange slip tell you who has the file.
Where will a New Port Richey court case be heard?
Civil injury cases from west Pasco are filed at the West Pasco Judicial Center, 7530 Little Road in New Port Richey, part of Florida's Sixth Judicial Circuit. Most claims settle before a lawsuit is needed, but our attorney has tried cases in this courthouse for decades, and insurers know it.
I was hit crossing US-19 near Trouble Creek Road. Do I have a claim?
Possibly. Pedestrians hit by cars in Florida can recover from the driver's bodily injury coverage and, if the driver was uninsured, from UM coverage on a vehicle in your own household. If you do not own a car, the striking vehicle's PIP may pay initial medical bills. Fault is contested in nearly every pedestrian case on US-19, so call (240) 421-5511 before you speak with the insurer.
How long do I have to sue after a New Port Richey car accident?
Two years from the date of the crash for most negligence claims (Fla. Stat. § 95.11(5)(a)), and two years for wrongful death (§ 95.11(5)(e)). If the at-fault party is a government body, such as the city, Pasco County or a GOPasco bus, a separate written notice requirement under Fla. Stat. § 768.28(6) applies as well.
